This is the embarrassing moment a trainee pilot crashed into a parked truck while taxiing to a runway.

The student was preparing for a solo flight in the Cessna 172I Skyhawk when he rolled past mechanics inspecting a truck at Sky Ranch Airport in Knoxville, Tennessee.

But the wings clipped the back of the parked vehicle, and the light aircraft overturned during the crash on March 3.

Authorities released their investigation findings this month, stating the student misjudged the clearance between the plane's wingtip and the parked truck.

An incident report from the Aviation Safety Network stated: 'The aeroplane initially made contact with the outboard 2ft of the right wing, then pivoted about 90 degrees to the right while tipping to the left and contacting the ground with the propeller and left wingtip before coming to rest.

'The student pilot was not injured, but the aeroplane was substantially damaged. According to the student pilot, he was taxiing at 10 to 15 mph, when the right wing impacted the truck.'

He admitted the incident was due to his misjudgment and said that in the future, he would taxi more slowly and give more space when passing obstacles.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) released its final report on July 17, identifying the probable cause as the student pilot's failure to maintain adequate clearance while taxiing.
