STORYLINE:

Heavy rainfall will continue to batter a large portion of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River in China, weather forecasters said on Tuesday.
   
China's National Meteorological Center renewed a red alert for heavy rainfall, the most severe alert in the country's weather warning system.

Floods have occurred in several rivers.

Rescue and evacuation efforts are underway in multiple flood-hit areas.

In low-lying rural areas of Hangzhou City, east China's Zhejiang Province, a mother who had just given birth was transferred with her family to a safe place.

"In our family, there is a new mother and a 6-day-old newborn. An ambulance was dispatched (to transfer them). We are very grateful to the local government."

In Zhijin County of southwest China's Guizhou Province, a clothing factory has been made into a temporary shelter for local residents.

"I was so scared (after it started raining). I couldn't even fall asleep, nor sit down calmly. The local government transferred us here, providing us with food and places to sleep."
