Police and Good Samaritans helped save a grandmother who slipped into the sea while on a tour in India.

Officers Kiran Thackeray and Amol Dahifale of the Marine Drive Police Station rushed to do a rescue mission when Swati Kanani, 59, plunged 20ft below into the water while visiting the beach area when hit by high tides in Mumbai.

Footage shows officers and passersby pulling the rope to bring Swati to safer grounds. They rescued the woman within 20 minutes and took her to GT Hospital.

An officer said: ‘Given that Marine Drive is a coastal location, our patrol squad always carries basic rescue supplies, including tyres, rings, and safety ropes.'

The elderly woman was in stable condition and given a health check by medics in the hospital.
