SOUNDBITE (English): GRIGORY TRUBNIKOV, Director of Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR, Dubna) & Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences
"We started the new era of our cooperation in 2013 here in Hefei. We cooperated in many interesting areas, like new materials, beam accelerators, and basic research in fusion, in accelerator physics, in nuclear physics.
Very fast, our cooperation in basic research gave very good results in applied research. China now is a leading country in fusion. Together with basic research, we develop application and applied research for medicine, for biology, for agriculture. And I'm very happy that our cooperation between Dubna Joint Institute for Nuclear Research and Russian institutes and Hefei 'Scientific Island' is very productive. Just within 4 or 5 years, we together designed and here manufactured new medical cyclotrons.
We have a lot of plans together, and not only in basic research, but also in a lot of, variety of applied research, medical physics, engineering physics, novel energy, biomedicine, I think also IT, informational technologies.
I think that we have a lot of points of cooperation in the future, in fusion, in novel atomic energy, and in the application of nuclear physics to many areas of our life, to improve the quality of our life."
