STORYLINE:

STANDUP (English): ALI JASWAL, Xinhua reporter
"Right now, I am present at trans freight station of Pakistan's National Logistics Corporation (NLC) in Rawalpindi, a twin city of Pakistan's federal capital Islamabad. And behind me are the trucks carrying goods which are about to depart for China under the global transit system TIR, being facilitated by the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework."

The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has significantly improved trade efficiency between the two countries, according to Pakistani officials.

Launched in 2013, the CPEC is a corridor linking the Gwadar Port in southwest Pakistan's Balochistan province with Kashgar in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, which highlights energy, transport, and industrial cooperation in the first phase, while the new phase expands to the fields of agriculture and livelihood.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): NASIR ZIA, Chief operations officer at NLC
"We are getting things from China and we are exporting it to China, the copper, cotton, aluminum and these things. Before CPEC, it was not possible. This trade has become a reality.
China is a big market. So we have started sending even our seafood. It has never been moving out of country. But now with the refrigerated van once we have started, it is a big market."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): AHMED KHAN, NLC's general manager of analytics
"We are also transporting the shipments from China to Central Asia using Pakistan as a transit. We are also transporting goods from the containers from China up to Karachi and Gwadar. Then those shipments of the containers are moved by sea to the final destinations like Middle East, Africa and Europe."
