STORYLINE:

A group of students and teachers from the US are taking part in a Sino-American youth cultural exchange program in China's Xiamen.

They visited schools, museums, parks and tech companies.

They also engaged in various activities with Chinese peers to experience various aspects of traditional Chinese culture.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): TAITE NAKABAYASHI, American student
"Chinese culture has been really interesting to learn about. It's been great to see the Fujian Province's history. We learned about shipbuilding. We learned about different teas and the tea-making process. So it's been really cool to see the contrast between America and such an older culture."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): ANIYA WADE, American student
"I love this trip. I think I was able to experience the culture a lot. I think I had a good learning experience, and I was able to see it in person."

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): CHELSEA NAKABAYASHI, Assistant professor, Chinese Language and Culture, Bard High School Early College
"I think it's really essential for our future. Because in America right now, and the students are on the social media, they see one China. But when they come here, and they're able to talk to their peers, they see... it's people to people, and it's just the same as them. So I think this makes it a really humanistic experience for them. Learning their value when they can share, you know, it doesn't matter whether we're Chinese or we're black American or white American, you know, we all are, you know, special to each other and can give to each other."
