Footage captured an elderly grandmother being transported across a fast-flowing river in a large aluminium cooking pot on her way to the hospital.

The unidentified grandmother had fallen ill and needed urgent transport to a medical facility in the Jamigu area in Pedabayalu Mandal of Alluri Sitharama Raju district in Andhra Pradesh, India,

With no bridge connecting their village to the mainland and the Gunjiwada stream overflowing due to heavy rains, the residents had no choice but to place her in a cooking pot and risk crossing the turbulent water to get her to the hospital.

The video shows Satya Rao, an elderly tribal man from the village, along with a young woman, helping the visibly distressed grandmother as she sits anxiously inside the pot.

Residents in villages such as Jamiguda and Injari have been struggling to access essential services, particularly during natural disasters. They have had to risk their lives by crossing treacherous streams to reach help.
