At Woburn Safari Park, Rothschild's giraffes and Barbary macaque monkeys were treated to a delightful 'summer party' this week, organized by the park's dedicated keepers. Despite some unconventional table manners, the animals relished in a unique feast designed to stimulate their natural behaviors.
The Barbary macaques, seated at miniature picnic tables, savored a specially crafted lunch that included potato 'ice creams', butternut squash and cabbage 'sandwiches', and mashed vegetable 'cocktails'. Visitors to the African Forest drive-through in the Road Safari were enthralled as the monkeys displayed their delight, munching on chilled veggies—a perfect treat for a sunny day!
Environmental enrichment plays a crucial role in the animals' lives at Woburn Safari Park, enhancing their well-being through engaging activities and feeding techniques. For the monkeys, this summer party introduced novel ways to enjoy their natural diet, showcasing their intelligence and nimble hands.
