Typhoon Gaemi causes barges to collide and overturn under Caruncho Bridge in Pasig City
On July 24, 2024, severe flooding caused by Typhoon Gaemi led to a dramatic incident under the Caruncho Bridge in Pasig City, Metro Manila, Philippines. A video shared by Alex Rellosa captured barges colliding with each other and the bridge due to the high water levels and strong currents of the Marikina River. The collision also affected small boats parked under the bridge and resulted in a power outage after hitting an electrical post. Despite the immediate danger, rescue efforts were delayed due to the unstable bridge and hazardous conditions. By 12:43 a.m., a man who had been stranded on top of a barge was finally rescued by the coastguard.
