STORYLINE:

Chinese company Al-Waha Petroleum has showcased its dedication to both energy production and environmental protection through its management of the Ahdab Oilfield in Iraq.

The oilfield is Iraq's first post-war international oil project. It began construction in 2009, and started production in 2011.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): JIANG MING, General director of Al-Waha Petroleum
"(The project) has brought the Iraqi government more than 20 billion U.S. dollars in economic revenue, effectively driving local economic development and benefiting people's livelihoods after the war, while at the same time promoting the improvement and upgrading of Iraq's industrial chain."

While Iraq has long struggled with the environmental impact of its oil and gas industry, particularly from gas flaring, the Ahdab Oilfield offers a different approach.

The facility's central processing plant is Iraq's first to integrate oil, gas, and water treatment.

It converts these resources into products that can be reused or recycled, significantly reducing waste and emissions.

SOUNDBITE 2 (Arabic): HAID OBAID, Section head of Ahdab Oilfield's production management department
"Since its establishment, Al-Waha Petroleum has been focusing on green development, actively carrying out the recycling, treatment and reuse of associated gas. This approach has not only brought economic revenue to the Iraqi government but has also benefited the local people."
