Red flag safety Beach closure by RNLI Lifeguards with thousands ordered out of the sea. fistral Beach, Newquay, Cornwall, UK
On one of the busiest beach days of the year, thousands of visitors thronged the one-mile Fistral Bay. Cornwall, UK. With rough and big sea conditions RNLI Lifeguards faced with the difficult and unpopular decision to close the beach to swimmers and surfers on safety grounds. As the tide turned around midday Lifeguards feared for surfers and swimmers, hundreds of people were rescued in the last few days, from the sea and from being cut off by tides, just in the Newquay area. Fistral Bay is particularly challenging, as it catches sea swell generated in the Atlantic very efficiently, thus its popularity with wave-seeking surfers.
