This is the moment RNLI saved a floating inflatable that was mistaken for a struggling swimmer in Bridlington.

Footage shows the Bridlington RNLI responding to a distress call on August 13, which reported a person in the water. The crew discovered it was a pink flamingo lilo blown offshore.

Responding to the HM Coastguard's request, the volunteer group promptly launched the inshore lifeboat 'Ernie Wellings'.

The lilo was located some 500 metres off Ulrome Beach, leading to a coordinated search with the HM Coastguard Helicopter Rescue to find the reported individual.

A beachgoer later confirmed that the lilo was empty and had been swept into the water without anyone aboard.

Volunteer Helm Andy Webber stated: 'Thankfully, this turned out to be a false alarm. We urge beachgoers not to bring lilos to the beach as they can easily be carried away by the wind. While colorful and fun, they are not suitable for open water.'

The RNLI saves lives at sea through its 24-hour search and rescue services around the UK and Ireland. With 238 lifeboat stations and over 240 lifeguard units across the UK and the Channel Islands, its volunteers are dedicated to maritime safety.
