STORYLINE:

More than 147 suspected gunmen were killed in various anti-terror operations by the country's military across Nigeria in the past week, an official said on Thursday.

At least 381 others were arrested during the operations, as the military continued its mission to rid the country of criminal elements, Edward Buba, spokesperson for the military, told the media in Abuja, the country's capital.

Troops rescued at least 113 victims of abduction while also recovering over 74 assorted weapons and 3,498 ammunition during the period, Buba said.

"For our ongoing operations in other parts of the country, I will say that we remain focused on defeating and killing the enemy wherever they are hiding. I must also state that we are in a better place today than at any previous time in terms of our operations."
