On July 3, 2024, an enchanting encounter was recorded in the vast desert of Dunhuang, Jiuquan, Gansu, northwestern China, where a small jerboa was spotted during the night. The jerboa, with its light khaki coat and a tail as long as a human forearm, hopped around adorably, captivating the filmer.

The tiny creature was given a piece of watermelon, which it ate with visible delight, comfortably lying on the juicy fruit.

The filmer noted the jerboa's short nose and long tail, which amusingly resembled a little pig, adding to its charm. Known scientifically as Jaculus jaculus, jerboas are said to have inspired the character design of Pikachu, making this sighting even more special for fans of the popular franchise.
