STORYLINE:

The China-Africa cooperation in vocational education has helped cultivate African youth through personnel training, skills development, and cultural exchanges.

The Rizhao Polytechnic, located in east China's Shandong Province, commenced its vocational education cooperation with African countries in 2021.

As of now, 42 Ghanaian students have undergone professional courses, Chinese language studies, and corporate training.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): BOATENG ANTHONY, Ghanaian student at Rizhao Polytechnic
"I think there is friendly cooperation between China and my country Ghana. And a lot of Ghanaians are willing to come to China to gain knowledge here, so that maybe they'll be able to go back to our country to apply that knowledge."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): APPIAH JEFFREY KORANKYE, Ghanaian student at Rizhao Polytechnic
"I think it opens more opportunities for young Africans, specifically for Ghanaians to come to China to learn about Chinese technology. It's a very nice cooperation that other African countries can also emulate to boost the economy and developments in their country as well.
I think prefabricated buildings, for example, are on a rise here in China. They are able to build or prefab their buildings or building components in the industry, in their factory before going to the site. It will reduce the construction time, as well as standardize building components. So I think going back to Ghana, that's one thing I want to apply over to Ghana."

The school has also hosted training programs for over 400 African teachers in the fields of construction and machinery manufacturing, helping them enhance their practical teaching abilities.

SOUNDBITE 3 (Chinese): WANG WEI, Teacher with Rizhao Polytechnic
"The courses mainly include engineering technologies. And we also incorporate some new technologies, such as the prefabricated building, low-carbon and green construction techniques, into the teaching programs."
