A protective pet myna guards its owner's home and chases strangers away.

The bird was rescued as a chick when owner Boonruen Seepee, 57, found it in a tree in her backyard.

It grew up with humans but amused Boonruen said the myna would not let anyone enter the house without her permission.

Footage shows the myna chasing away a visitor it met for the first time. Sometimes, the bird perches on the roof, acting as a guard, and then flies down when another stranger enters the property.

Boonruen said: ‘My bird is like a guard dog. I talk to it always so it will be familiar to people.

‘It has a habit of watching dogs especially when they bark. I think that is where it learned the behaviour.'

The bird sleeps in a cage at night to protect it from cats, but during the day, it flies freely around the house and never leaves.

A delivery man who was once chased by the bird said: ‘I am not afraid of dogs, they only bark and stop but the bird is more fierce.'
