Orange rainbow captivates onlookers in Minnesota
This jaw-dropping orange rainbow captivated onlookers in Golden Valley, Minnesota.
Footage captured by K Mac shows the striking rainbow arching over the city on August 26.
The unusual orange sky resulted from atmospheric conditions as the sun set, scattering shorter blue and violet wavelengths and leaving longer red, orange, and pink wavelengths.
Meteorologists noted that additional particles from storms can enhance this scattering effect.
A local atmospheric scientist, Dr Laura Smith, said: 'Storms introduce dust and water droplets into the air, which scatter sunlight even more, enhancing the colours we see.'
The rainbow appeared due to light refracting through water droplets, splitting white light into its spectrum of colours.
