Police raid cannabis factory in sleepy village in Cambridgeshire
Police officers raided a cannabis factory following a tip-off from concerned community members in Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom.
Neighbourhood officers received complaints about a strong cannabis odour coming from a residence in Tanglewood.
On May 8, police forced entry into Tran's home after the overwhelming smell of cannabis raised concerns about the scale of the operation inside.
Upon entering, officers discovered an extensive cannabis cultivation setup, with 238 plants found across several bedrooms and a loft, estimated to have a street value of up to GBP 199,000.
Nam Hong Tran, 34, appeared at Cambridge Crown Court on August 23, where he pleaded guilty to the production of cannabis. He was sentenced to a year in prison on September 2.
His Honour Judge Bishop acknowledged the broader context of his involvement in criminal activity but highlighted the serious nature of producing a controlled substance due to the associated harms it brings to the community.
Police Constable Edward McAuley, who led the investigation, highlighted the importance of community vigilance.
He said: 'Thanks to information from the community, this illegal drug will no longer reach the streets.'
