This is the shocking moment an out-of-control motorcycle swerved into a roadside shop in central Thailand.

The police motorbike was on patrol when the vehicle ahead suddenly shifted into the adjacent lane without warning, just as he tried to overtake.

CCTV footage on November 22 shows the officer clipping the motorcycle in front before veering toward the shop and slamming into a fuel dispenser.

Onlookers called a rescue team as the cop suffered injuries from the crash.

The officer's son, Prasert, said: 'He wasn't seriously hurt. He's feeling better now.'

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
