Landslide in Chamoli District Blocks National Highway Connecting Niti Valley to Joshimath
This video is of mountain breaking apart in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district. The video is reportedly from the Niti Valley, where a major landslide occurred. Due to the landslide, the National Highway connecting Niti Valley to Joshimath has been blocked. This highway not only links several villages in Niti Valley but also connects India to the China border. According to information, it may take one to two days to reopen the highway. The closure of this route is causing significant difficulties for local residents. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is working on reopening the highway. With the highway closed, remote villages such as Dronagiri, Garpak, Malari, and Gamshali have been cut off from the Joshimath tehsil headquarters.
Currently, local residents are forced to travel on foot due to the highway closure. The BRO had already deployed excavators at the landslide-prone area to ensure the highway could be reopened as quickly as possible. Providing more details, BRO Commander Ankur Mahajan stated that the landslide occurred near Lata in Niti Valley. Continuous landslides have been occurring there since yesterday, causing the highway closure.
