STORYLINE:

Indian students attending the just-concluded 2024 China-India Youth Summer Camp have expressed their love for Chinese culture.

The two-week-long summer camp, which kicked off on August 26, attracted 16 university and college students across India.

Through lectures, group discussions, and cultural visits, the students gained a deeper understanding of China's language, history, and cultural heritage.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): RUSHIKA HEMADE, Indian student
"I love Hanzi (Chinese characters). I like the logic behind the Hanzi and I like to see how they have changed traditionally from the old times to the new."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): NIHARIKAA PERIWAAL, Indian student
"It (Hanzi) is very pictorial. Even if you don't fully understand what the word is or you don't know how to read it, you can recognize what it's hinting at because of the way it's written. It's very unique."

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): ARYAN AGARWAL, Indian student
"I really like the cultural density of this place. Qingmingshanghe Garden (Millennium City Park) makes me feel like I've traveled thousands of years back and experiencing everything of the Song Dynasty. Before coming here, we went to the Henan Museum. It was the highlight of my trip. The most amazing thing that I saw was that instead of keeping replicas, they had original restored artifacts, which obviously are very, very difficult to maintain. It was actually very fascinating."

SOUNDBITE 4 (English): NIHARIKAA PERIWAAL, Indian student
"And they had this performance of music using the old instrument. The dance, the clothes... I also like that people are very interested in the history of their culture. They value that a lot, and they want to learn about their own culture and they still practice that. So that's very nice."

SOUNDBITE 5 (English): DUGAR RUCHI, Indian student
"I knew China was the safest place and the people here are very good. I was confirmed of that. Literally, it was quite (better) than my expectations and I really enjoy staying in China."

SOUNDBITE 6 (English): ARYAN AGARWAL, Indian student
"China is a wonderful place. I will not stop coming here. It's going to be one of my travel destinations a lot of times."
