Elle's mural is one of three large-scale street art murals in the heart of Newquay. The first celebrates various aspects of Newquay’s heritage and identity, and involves creative input from the local community. The second here depicts an old-time Fisherman mending his nets by candle light, in a nod to the Fishing industry heritage of the town. Jack Tierney is the overseeing artist. Mark Warren is the business manager for Newquay Business Improvement District.
The festival has been designed with the community at its heart, with local organizations taking center stage to produce a diverse program that reflects Newquay’s identity and history. Many of the events are free or at an affordable price, from live shows, workshops, and exhibitions to outdoor and well-being experiences. Reflecting the values that matter most to the local community, the Be Newquay Festival will invite everyone to discover something new and be creatively curious about the town.
Brought to you by the Cornwall Council project ‘Experience Newquay’ in collaboration with its local project partners, the first wave of commissions are showcased by painted street murals created by artist Kleiner and the team from Slapdash studios based in Bristol.
Three street art murals are planned. Located in or near the town center, These large-scale artworks will depict various aspects of Newquay’s heritage and identity. People will be able to see them being painted and there will be street art workshops for people to have a go.
