Electric taxi car crashes into restaurant in Indonesia
This is the shocking moment an electric taxi crashed into a restaurant in Indonesia.
The teal-coloured vehicle was reversing in front of the Almaz Fried Chicken restaurant in Tangerang City, Banten, to chase a hit-and-run driver when it slammed into the storefront.
Footage shows the Vietnamese car smashing through glass panels and concrete walls, scattering shards across the floor on Friday, January 9.
Diners queuing inside the restaurant can be seen running to safety as the vehicle bursts through the entrance.
Local media reported that the electric taxi had been rammed by a Mitsubishi Pajero as it exited a road lane. The collision left the taxi blocking traffic.
The taxi driver reportedly tried to reverse his car to let the Pajero driver pull over into a nearby mosque area to settle the incident.
However, the driver of the Pajero suddenly drove away and fled the scene.
The taxi driver reportedly panicked when the perpetrator fled. While attempting to reposition his car to chase the driver, he made a fatal error by treading on the accelerator while the car was still in reverse.
The electric car then shot backwards uncontrollably until it hit the restaurant.
An onlooker said: 'The driver panicked because the car that hit him ran away. He seemed to be in such a hurry that he hit the wrong pedal.'
Despite the severe damage to the building, no serious injuries were reported.
Several diners expressed that they were left shaken by the noise of the impact.
Police are now investigating the case and searching for the driver of the Pajero who triggered the initial accident.
