Israel held a memorial on October 7 to mark one year since an attack by Hamas on a music festival in the country.

President Isaac Herzog led the commemorations honouring the 360 festival goers killed at the event in 2023 and calling for the safe return of some 101 hostages still believed to be held in Gaza by the Palestinian group.

Herzog began the day with a moment of silence at 6:29 am, the exact time the attack occurred last year, at kibbutz Reim, the site of the Nova festival, where Hamas-led fighters killed attendees.

Footage by Avi Shauly captured the silent tribute paid by the victims' families.

Israel launched an assault on Gaza following the music festival attack. The continued bombardment has resulted in more 41,000 Palestinian deaths, widespread destruction, and significant displacement, with hunger becoming a major issue.

The toll increased on Monday night when airstrikes in the Bureij refugee camp killed at least 21 people, including five children and two women.

Israel's strikes in Lebanon since late September have reportedly claimed at least 1,400 lives, including civilians, medics, and Hezbollah fighters, displacing 1.2 million people.
