Giant tidal wave cloud rolls across horizon in Colorado
This is the dramatic moment a giant tidal wave cloud rolls across the horizon in Colorado.
Footage shows massive roll clouds sweeping over rural parts of Morgan County on July 16.
A giant tidal wave cloud, also known as a roll cloud, is a rare type of arcus cloud that forms as a horizontal, tube-shaped cloud. It typically appears to roll along the horizon like a giant wave.
These clouds form when cool, dense air from a thunderstorm or cold front pushes underneath warmer air, causing the warmer air to rise and condense into this distinctive rolling shape.
Roll clouds are often associated with strong winds and sudden changes in weather but are not tornadic.
