STORYLINE:

Croatians celebrated its annual World Cravat Day on Friday at Zagreb's central Ban Josip Jelacic Square. 

October 18 was declared World Cravat Day by Academia Cravatica in 2008 to mark the Croatian invention, cravat.

Academia Cravatica, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage of the cravat, has been promoting the celebration of Cravat Day.

"We all from Academia Cravatica are proud that it has been 16 years since the Croatian parliament declared the Cravat Day. This is a great opportunity to remind people that a tie originated from the Croats and that all the values promoted by the tie can be affirmed on this day."

The event attracted a large crowd, who watched with interest as the guard change reenacted the tie's historical origins. Croatians take pride in the tie as part of their contribution to world cultural heritage.
