STORYLINE:
The Chinese Embassy in Croatia held an open day event in Zagreb on Wednesday, enriching local students' knowledge of China.
The event drew some 20 students from the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Zagreb and from the Diplomatic Club of the Libertas International University. Qi Qianjin, Chinese Ambassador to Croatia, gave a lecture on Chinese foreign policy and China-Croatia relations.
SOUNDBITE 1 (English): QI QIANJIN, Chinese Ambassador to Croatia
"Croatian young people are more interested in knowing about China, everything in China's diplomacy, China's economic development, Chinese people's way of life. So generally speaking, I think we find consensus. The Chinese side and Croatian side are willing to improve our ties in business, trade, culture, and also we have to improve our understanding."
At the event, Croatian students had an opportunity to enjoy Chinese cultural performances and try delicious Chinese cuisines.
Attendees were highly impressed with the event and looked forward to other immersive Chinese cultural experiences in the future.
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): BRUNO OSTOJIC, President of the Diplomatic Club at the International Libertas University
"Actually, I think we learned a lot more today than I would learn from a book or something like that, merely because someone who actually experienced political culture and the culture itself in China and lived in China can tell you much more than something that's written down."
SOUNDBITE 3 (English): JAKOV ZUCIC, President of the Diplomatic Club of the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Zagreb
"We are very honored to be here. We see it as a great opportunity to broaden our horizons, especially in an academic sense, seeing how Croatia has a lot of bilateral agreements with the People's Republic of China in regard to academic development, specifically exchange opportunities as well as cultural exchange which we think is very important. And since a lot of our members are actually striving to be career diplomats in the future, we see this as a perfect opportunity to actually engage in relations in the first hand and this has proven to be a great experience for us, and we hope to see more of it in the future."
SOUNDBITE 4 (English): MAK OSTOJIC, Student of the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Zagreb
"I definitely feel like the ambassador gave us a good idea of how Chinese politics works and what is their logic behind their foreign policy, I should say, and how that could be applied to China-Croatia bilateral relations and similar."
Xinhua News Agency correspondents reporting from Zagreb.
