A hapless pet cat looked on as a rat tucked into his food bowl.

Footage shows the black feline aplty named 'Toothless' by its owner, looking nervous while the rodent steals his rice meal in Manila, the Philippines on October 4.

Toothless was a stray adopted by office workers who have been taking care of him and bringing him food every day.

However, the employees were amused when they saw him looking flustered by the huge rat that was eating some of the food they left for him.

One of the workers Raffy Clint Ignacio said: 'Our company APX to a different location and took Toothless with us. We were surprised that big rats were in our new office until we found out that our friendly cat was letting them roam around, not fighting with them.

'We might need to hire a new cat.'
