STORYLINE:

Chinese and Spanish companies should join forces to do business in both countries, as today's technology and advanced logistics provide opportunities even for small firms, economist Ramon Calduch has said to Xinhua in an interview.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Spanish): RAMON CALDUCH, Spanish economist
"We need to come together and join forces to improve each other's productivity and do business in Spain and in China, and even in third countries. With today's technology and advanced logistics, this is open to even small companies."

Citing plans announced by Chinese companies, including Envision and Chery, to make substantial investments in Spain, Calduch said "Spain is a good country for the Chinese to invest in."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Spanish): RAMON CALDUCH, Spanish economist
"Spain is a good country for the Chinese to invest in because Spain is considered a friendly country in China and because good long-term relationships and win-win situations when doing business are important to the Chinese."

The economist suggested creating favorable conditions for small businesses.

SOUNDBITE 3 (Spanish): RAMON CALDUCH, Spanish economist
"Many Chinese companies would be willing to come and work here in Spain, and they don't need to be large Chinese multinational companies to establish a win-win relationship that takes into account the size of most Spanish and Chinese companies; it doesn't always have to be about the Telefonica or the Huawei.
It would be worth setting up clusters in Spain and China to bring entrepreneurs together and provide them with favorable conditions for them to do business rather than relying on government officials to tell people how to do business in China."
