Two doses of psilocybin, the active ingredient in “magic mushrooms,” is the drug that produces the best result after six months in the battle against depression, which affects more than 300 million people worldwide, according to a study carried out by researchers at Imperial College London and published in the journal Lancet eClinical Medicine, whose results have also been recently presented at the 37th congress of the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology.

The stakes of clinical trials with psilocybin are high: there is a pressing need for a more effective medical solution in the fight against depression, especially treatment-resistant depression. Of the nearly 9 million people with severe depression in the United States who have tried drugs, an estimated 2.8 million are resistant to multiple antidepressants.
