Dozens of children were rescued from a school bus fire in Indonesia.

The coach carrying 58 youngsters burst into flames along the Wiyoto Wiyono Toll Road in East Jakarta at around 10:12 am on October 24.

Abdul Wahid, Head of Operations for the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-department, said: The cause was a short circuit in the AC. From under the AC there were suddenly sparks in the engine compartment. Then the fire grew bigger.'

Three fire engines and 13 personnel were dispatched to tackle the blaze, seen in the video ripping through the rear end of the bus.

All sixty people inside, including 58 kindergarteners, were safe, and the fire was declared extinguished at 10:57 am.

Abdul said the firefighting operations caused a 30-minute traffic jam in the area. Traffic flow has since returned to normal.

Firefighters said damages were estimated to be at 800 million IDR (39,657 GBP).
