Workers injured when dust barrier collapses at construction site in Thailand
Six workers were injured when a dust barrier collapsed at a construction site in Thailand.
The structure reportedly fell from the sixth floor of a condominium being built on Samsen Soi 24 in Bangkok.
Police Captain Sombat Sangmanee of the Samsen Police Station said the accident was reported at 6:30pm on November 6.
Rescue teams and medics arrived at the scene, where six people were injured, including one man who was impaled in the chest with a steel rebar. It took 40 minutes to safely free him.
Three other workers suffered serious injuries, while two had minor wounds.
Reporters were denied access to the construction site.
Tatsanai Champangern, the assistant manager for safety at the condo project, said the collapse was caused by the dust barrier plunging some 60ft onto the construction site below.
He said: 'Typically, a crew of around 10 workers manages this area. However, there had been a change in the crew, which may have caused miscommunication between the foremen of the two units.'
He added that the construction has been temporarily halted for investigations. The company in charge will also provide hospital benefits for the injured.
Thailand this year saw several fatal construction accidents.
In March, a crane collapse at a steel factory in Rayong province killed seven workers when the crane transporting them fell from 100 metres.
Later in August, two Chinese nationals and a Myanmar worker were trapped and found dead following a tunnel collapse at a high-speed rail project due to a landslide.
In September, a large crane collapsed at a condominium project in Nakhon Sawan province, killing a Cambodian worker and damaging eight nearby houses.
