Lagos, Nigeria - Recent [Note: partially no sound] Storyline: Nigeria's commercial city, Lagos, recently hosted the inaugural Afropolis Lagos Festival, bringing together artists and creatives from Nigeria, across Africa, and beyond to celebrate arts, culture, creativity, and innovation. The festival featured live poetry performances, with each day culminating in a musical performance. Activities were held simultaneously at various spaces within the same venue. One of the major highlights of the festival is a newly opened museum in the city. Inside, attendees can explore a large exhibition of cultural arts and artifacts from the Yoruba people of Southwest Nigeria. The collection blends ancient and modern works, with a special section dedicated to the Yoruba deity Sango. Many visitors were mesmerized by the displays. The festival also provided a platform to highlight the rich cultural heritage and creative spirit that sets Lagos and Nigeria apart on the global stage. Despite being held for the first time in Nigeria, the festival drew over 20,000 attendees and engaged more than 1,000 creatives over its nine-day run. Shotlist: Lagos, Nigeria - Recent: 1. Everything about culture, past and present in Lagos and Nigeria. I could see all the Sango, Moremi, the Oba's crown, all the things that we used to see in the olden days, like the Kolo, made with mud, mud clay. So many things that I would like people to come here to see. Afropolis has created an avenue for us to come and see." [SHOT OVERLAYING SOUNDBITE] 9. So I hope that Afropolis will be one of those important international gatherings, cultural and creative gatherings and artistic gatherings that is globally. So those of us who are international artists who move from New York to Barcelona, to Paris, to Johannesburg, I feel like Afropolis then also becomes one of those platforms where we can also meet and continue the work we are all doing internationally."
