Storyline: The first-ever dedicated exhibition on the low-altitude economy became a highlight at the 25th China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) in Xiamen City of east China's Fujian Province. The four-day event, which concludes on Thursday, covers more than 100 investment-themed activities and has gathered visitors from over 120 countries and regions, with Britain this year featured as the guest country of honor. China has been making efforts to develop its low-altitude economy, which refers to activities involving both manned and unmanned aircraft operating in airspace ranging from 1,000 meters and 3,000 meters above the ground, recognizing it as a strategic emerging sector which has the huge potential to transform urban mobility. For the first time, CIFIT has introduced a low-altitude economy exhibition zone, showcasing two key applications: logistics transport and sightseeing tourism. Chinese logistics giant China Post brought several of its drones to the venue, demonstrating feeder transport, medical deliveries, and time-critical urban express services, a clear sign of how rapidly low-altitude applications are taking off. "At present, we mainly use drones for transportation and delivery in places with particularly inconvenient transportation conditions, such as mountainous areas and islands," said Xu Ning, deputy general manager of China Post. For the low-altitude economy to really take off, investment in both ground and aerial infrastructure is key. This year, the fair focuses on making a major push in building ground facilities for low-altitude operations in China. In Xiamen, an integrated network of such facilities and management is being shaped, among which is Xiamen R and B Baicheng Low Altitude Operations, a comprehensive operation base of the low-altitude industry involving multiple links of drone operation. "Our work focuses on two main areas: training talent for drone applications, and second, building a complete support network including drone maintenance, inspection, and assembly and manufacturing for operations and services," said Jiang Xingjin, general manager of the base. The base also trains human resources for drone operation and maintenance, to meet the growing demand of the new industry. "It takes three to four months to complete the drone flying sessions, including practical flying, component repair and software programming, and trainees can go to big tech companies for internships," said Ma Zhichao, a coach at the base. This base is also actively exploring the close integration of technological innovation with real-world applications, taking on specialized projects in areas such as smart transportation, low-altitude logistics, urban governance, and smart ocean services within the low-altitude economy. According to forecasts from China's civil aviation authority, the country's low-altitude economy is expected to reach a market size of 3.5 trillion yuan (over 491 billion U.S. dollars) by 2035. First launched in 1997, CIFIT, organized by the Ministry of Commerce, has become an important platform for boosting investment and facilitating global development.
