Tourists queued to buy ferry tickets as a volcanic eruption grounded flights in Indonesia this week.

Video shows dozens of foreigners baking under the hot sun as they lined up for boat tickets out of Labuan Bajo town in East Nusa Tenggara province on November 13. The fishing town is located on the western end of Flores Island, where Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki was erupting.

Onlooker Ito Vilgan Aman said: 'This is recorded on November 13, 2024 when the flight from Labuan Bajo canceled. Many passengers queued up to buy Pelni boat tickets.'

Stephanus Risdiyanto, Head of the Office of the Harbormaster and Port Authority Class III Labuan Bajo, said: 'As of Wednesday, there were 114 ships evacuating passengers. There are 3,292 passengers stranded.'

The Komodo International Airport in Labuan Bajo was temporarily closed amid the eruption.

Officials said some 50 flights in Bali and nearby provinces have been disrupted in the past three days as restive Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki, one of two volcanic mountains that make up Mount Lewotobi on Flores island, continues to spew ash and caused poor visibility.

Indonesia's disaster mitigation agency said on Tuesday that nine people have been killed, 31 injured, and more than 11,000 displaced in the multiple eruptions from the twin peaks in recent weeks.

Indonesia is part of the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where the majority of Earth's volcano eruptions and earthquakes happen.
