Selfish driver fined for blocking ambulance on emergency call
A selfish driver was fined for blocking an ambulance on an emergency call in India.
Dashcam footage released by paramedics shows the emergency response vehicle trailing a silver Maruti Suzuki Ciaz for over two minutes on a two-lane road in Chalakudy, Kerala, on November 7.
Reports say the medical transport was en route from Ponnani to Thrissur Medical College when the incident occurred.
Despite repeated honking and sirens blaring, the car's driver refused to yield.
The driver was charged with multiple offences, including failing to yield to an ambulance, obstructing an authorized vehicle under the Motor Vehicles Act, and lacking a Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC).
The total fine for these violations amounted to Rs 6,250 (58 GBP), and the car owner's driving licence was reportedly revoked.
Under Section 194E of the Motor Vehicles Act, failure to give way to an ambulance can result in a fine of Rs 10,000 (93 GBP), imprisonment for up to one year, or both.
