STORYLINE:

International business insiders gathered on Tuesday at the opening of a supply chain expo in Beijing, highlighting China's important role in the global supply chain.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): JONATHAN PADDISON, Board Member of Knorr-Bremse Asia Pacific
"We have a very strong base of sub-suppliers here in China who support us. And it gives us speed to deliver according to the market requirements. Without that supply chain here in China, we wouldn't be able to deliver those products.
We innovate with Chinese sub-suppliers who provide us with raw materials, special electronics, or connectors, or other parts, and we then bring that together.
So it's very important for us to have a reliable, resilient supply chain in China to allow us to form and build the products required for the market."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): MANUEL C. MENENDEZ III, Chairman and CEO of MCM Group Holdings Ltd.
"I think the industries I've been in China have always been very cooperative. And I think we've worked well together. It's always been on the basis of mutual understanding, mutual respect, and mutual benefit."

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): JOHN MCLEAN OBE, Chairman of China Britain Business Development Center
"If it wasn't for China, the majority of the world would not actually have the products that it actually wants. China is developing its economy, but also its way of working its initiatives."

SOUNDBITE 4 (English): SEBASTIAN WOOD, Chairman of China Affairs with Schroders
"We have many British companies which are major investors in China and some of those companies have a significant part of their supply chain here in China.
China is an important emerging market. Global asset managers are increasingly interested in the markets in China."

Xinhua News Agency correspondents reporting from Beijing.
