Trapped driver tries to flag down speeding train before collision
This is the dramatic moment a trucker attempts to flag down a speeding train just seconds before it crashes into his vehicle.
CCTV footage shows the driver ignoring red warning lights as he forces his way through the crossing's closing barrier arms, snapping one of them off, in Mazowieckie, Poland, on November 26.
A second set of barriers comes before him, trapping the truck on the tracks.
But instead of simply driving straight through them, he bafflingly leaps from his cab and tries to flag down the train rapidly racing towards him.
At the last second, he steps aside as the train smashes into the truck, sending it flying from the tracks like a toy.
Authorities said the train did not overturn despite the massive impact, and none of its 120 passengers or five crew members were seriously injured.
Aftermath images show the train with a badly crushed nose after it jumped the tracks and shuddered to a halt between two lines.
PKP operators posted the security camera video, saying the collision cost would exceed PLN 12 million (GBP 2.3 million).
Local media reported that the 57-year-old trucker denies any wrongdoing and has been charged with causing a disaster.
Regional prosecutor Bartosz Maliszewski said: 'None of the victims were injured for more than seven days.
'The suspect pleaded not guilty, he offered explanations partly consistent with the evidence.'
If convicted, the trucker could be jailed for up to eight years, reports local media.
