STORYLINE:

Australia's economy grew a slower-than-expected 0.8 percent in the 12 months to September, official figures have revealed.

According to data published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) on Wednesday, Australia's gross domestic product (GDP) grew 0.3 percent in the three months to September and 0.8 percent in the 12 months since September 2023.

It marked Australia's slowest rate of GDP growth in a 12-month period since the COVID-19 pandemic recession of 2020.

The Australian Associated Press reported that economists had expected growth of 0.5 percent for the three-month period and 1.1 percent for the year.

The economy grew 1.0 percent in the 12 months to June 2024.
