Gaza Strip: Flour supply halts, severe food crisis hounds Gazans
Gaza Strip - December 10, 2024 Displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are hounded with a serious shortage of crackers, one of the main food sources for people in the besieged enclave, as flour supply halted. The Israeli army has blocked flour from entering the Gaza Strip and international organizations have stopped distributing it, leading to a massive panic buy with skyrocketing prices. As resources become increasingly scarce and people cannot make any food at home, lootings occurred in central and southern Gaza. On Nov 29, hungry crowds were trampled at a food shop in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza Strip as they rushed to buy crackers, resulting in death of two women and one child. At another shop in the city of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, many people have waited for hours but were unable to buy anything, including the 70-year-old displaced Palestinian Nabil Al-Basyouni. A large number of food stalls in southern Gaza were forced to close down due to flour shortage, with the price of each cracker rising nearly 32 times since the latest round of conflict broke out.
