Heroic firefighters crawl across cracking ice to rescue girl who fell through frozen river in China
On the morning of December 10 in Fushun, Liaoning Province, a girl fell through the ice while walking on the frozen Hun River under the General Bridge, facing the risk of hypothermia in a dire situation.
Passersby quickly called for help, and local firefighters rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, the rescue team donned ice rescue suits to combat the extreme conditions. Aware of the fragile and unstable ice, the firefighters decided to crawl toward the girl to minimise pressure on the surface and reduce the risk of further cracking.
When they reached her, they found the girl conscious but unable to assist in her rescue. Shielding her with their bodies to prevent further sinking, the firefighters coordinated with colleagues onshore, using floating ropes and water rescue equipment to slowly pull her out of the icy hole.
After a tense but well-executed rescue, the girl was successfully saved and immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. She is now in stable condition.
Witness Ms. Li, who was on her way to work, described the incident. With temperatures hovering around -15 to -16°C (5°F), she expressed deep admiration for the firefighters who braved the freezing water to save the girl.
