On September 22 in Renshou, Sichuan, bus driver Li Lin was injured in both eyes while driving but fought through the pain to bring the vehicle to a safe stop ensuring the safety of all 16 passengers on board.

Surveillance footage shows that at 9:40 a.m., a sudden flying steel bar smashed through the front windshield, sending shards of glass into Li Lin’s eyes and leaving him nearly blinded. Despite the searing pain and rapidly fading vision, Li Lin gripped the steering wheel firmly, kept the bus steady, eased off the accelerator, and gradually braked the vehicle to a controlled stop at the roadside.

After parking, he signalled for help by waving through the window to an oncoming bus, switched on the hazard lights, and opened the front doors to guide passengers out safely. Only once he confirmed all 16 passengers had safely disembarked did he allow colleagues and bystanders to take him to a nearby hospital.

Due to the severity of his injuries, Li Lin was transferred to a specialist eye hospital in Chengdu. Doctors reported multiple glass fragments embedded in his eyes, with his left eyeball ruptured and his right eye seriously damaged, leaving his vision gravely impaired. He remains under further treatment.
