This is the dramatic moment firefighters crawled across a frozen lake to rescue a trapped girl.

Two firefighters retrieved the hapless teenager who had fallen into an icy pond in Liaoning, China, on December 10.

The victim was reportedly walking on the frozen Hun River under the General Bridge when she plummeted through the cracked ice.

Upon seeing her in distress, passersby immediately called the emergency services who sent a rescue team to help her out of the freezing cold water.

The hapless local was unable to move out of the water due to the extreme temperatures, which were hovering around -15 degrees Celsius.

Footage shows two heroic men clad in ice rescue suits crawling across the fragile ice to reach her.

They can be seen swimming toward the icy shore while coordinating with their teammates onshore.

The team successfully pulled the girl to safety using a floating rescue rope.

One of the rescuers said: 'The girl was at risk of hypothermia, and we are lucky that we are able to immediate rescue her.'

Hypothermia is a medical emergency that occurs when the body's temperature drops below 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 degrees Celsius). It can be fatal if left untreated.

Hypothermia can cause an irregular heartbeat, which can lead to heart failure and death. It can also make it difficult to think clearly or move well.
