This is the moment rioters attacked a government office in Papua, Indonesia.

Angry job seekers set fire to the Civil Service Agency (BKD) office and a ceremonial podium at the Boven Digoel Regent's office on December 11, driven by anger over the results of the basic competency selection test (SKD) for National Civil Service Candidates.

The blaze spread rapidly, destroying the entire building and causing significant structural damage.

Footage shows the chaos, showing protesters running and jumping from the building, with some carrying sticks.

Police dispersed the crowd by firing warning shots into the air and deploying tear gas to halt the unrest.

Boven Digoel Police Chief AKBP Wisnu Perdana Putra said that Deputy Police Chief Commissioner Handoyo Prasetyo was negotiating with the crowd before the Regent's office, urging them to avoid further destruction and express their grievances peacefully.

The police added: 'Boven Digoel Police personnel are currently still on standby to anticipate further actions and currently the perpetrators and provocateurs have been secured at the Boven Digoel Police and will be dealt with firmly.'

Authorities emphasised that those responsible for the arson and damage will face strict legal action.
