Protests grow against digital ID cards in the UK
Protesters marched across the United Kingdom to voice their opposition to government plans for digital identification cards.
Footage captured by Marco Robinson shows a rally moving along the Thames Embankment near Millennium Bridge in central London on October 18.
The Prime Minister announced in September that a national digital ID system would be launched in 2029, requiring all individuals working in the UK to register.
Demonstrators have expressed concerns about privacy and data protection, warning that such a system could become a prime target for cybercriminals.
Conservative former minister Sir David Davis, who also opposed the introduction of ID cards under Sir Tony Blair's Labour government, said: 'While digital IDs and ID cards sound like modern and efficient solutions to problems like illegal immigration, such claims are misleading at best.
'The systems involved are profoundly dangerous to the privacy and fundamental freedoms of the British people.'
A government petition opposing the proposal has now attracted over 2.8 million signatures.
