A bomb threat to India's UNESCO-listed Mahabodhi Temple has led to heightened security.

Officials confirmed on Wednesday, December 11, that the temple management in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, received a letter claiming it would be blown up.

Footage shows police officers checking all individuals entering the site to ensure safety.

Manoj Kumar Singh, the Station House Officer of Bodh Gaya Police Station, confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing.

Singh told local media: 'The Mahabodhi management received the threat two days ago and immediately informed the district police. We are actively working to trace the sender's location.'

Sources suggest the alarm, allegedly issued in the name of ISIS, may involve a notorious gangster, Prince Khan, from Dhanbad, Jharkhand.

Police investigated, with a team visiting Khan's residence. However, preliminary reports indicate Khan is hiding in Dubai.

Authorities are still conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.

The Mahabodhi Temple, targeted in 2013 and 2018, remains a potential mark. Officials said strong security arrangements have prevented major incidents in the past.
