Mexico - December 15, 2024 Popocatepetl, one of Mexico’s most active volcanoes, recorded 22 exhalations of volcanic gases and ash, along with 440 minutes of tremor, over the last 24 hours. The National Center for Disaster Prevention (Cenapred) confirmed that the Volcanic Alert Level remains at Yellow Phase 2, signaling ongoing activity but no immediate escalation. Authorities urge the public to avoid climbing the volcano due to the risk of explosions that can hurl incandescent fragments. A 12-kilometer exclusion zone around the crater remains in place for safety. During heavy rains, residents are also advised to stay clear of ravines, where mud and debris flows pose a significant danger.
