This is the breathtaking moment a Super Geminid meteor illuminates the night sky in Spain.

Stunning footage shows the dazzling bolide on December 14. Local skywatchers witnessed the fireball surpassing the moon's brightness across the country, including in Leon, Esparreguera, Barcelona, and Arroyomolinos in Caceres.

Authorities said the meteor disintegrated 62 km above sea level, between Astorga and Leon, making it the most luminous Geminid in 30 years of observation.

The event featured a dazzling flash as the asteroid Phaethon's rock burned up in the atmosphere, creating an unforgettable spectacle.

Meteors are bits of comets and asteroids. As these objects pass the Sun, they leave a dusty trail. Each year, Earth passes through this debris, causing the bits to burn up in the atmosphere and create fiery streaks in the sky.

The Geminid meteor shower peaks mid-December and is one of the best annual showers. It is best viewed at night and predawn and is visible worldwide due to its nearly 24-hour peak.

Spain, located in the southern part of Europe, has many areas with clear skies and relatively low light pollution, particularly in rural regions. These conditions make for excellent viewing conditions for celestial events like this.
