Pastor tells terrified worshippers that church-shaking during earthquake is 'God's power'
This is the bizarre moment a pastor told terrified worshippers that the church-shaking during an earthquake was 'God's power'.
Preacher Nelida Rojas was caught on camera during a service at her El Gran Yo Soy (The Big I Am) church in Lima, Peru, on June 15, as a powerful 6.1-magnitude quake rocked the country.
Instead of urging her congregation to evacuate to safety, she proclaimed: 'That means our Heavenly Father is working! Don't be afraid! If you're right with the Lord, you should rejoice instead. Say thank you, Father. Praise the Lord!'
While some faithful followers looked on ecstatically, others appeared more sceptical, quietly slipping out of the door as the earth trembled and the building swayed.
Peru's Geophysical Institute confirmed the quake's epicentre was located 30 kilometres southwest of Callao, at a depth of 49 kilometres.
Local media reported a series of landslides in the region, including one incident where a motorbike taxi rider was crushed to death by a collapsing wall.
Police and emergency services described it as the worst earthquake to hit the seismically active country so far this year.
Peru lies along the Pacific Ring of Fire, one of the most earthquake-prone regions in the world.
