China: Generative AI a game changer for Chinese game developers
China - December 23, 2024 Generative AI a game changer for Chinese game developers (Voice_over) Chinese gaming companies are using generative AI tools to make game development significantly easier and faster. Generative AI uses prompts to create text, images and videos. In the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou, game designers are using generative AI to make an in-game concert. They say it lets them accelerate game production across the board. (Sound_bite) Liu Chang, Game designer: "For example, in the past, it would take our animators several days to create a simple movement as they have to do it frame by frame. Now the generative AI can generate it in seconds." (Voice_over) Other companies, meanwhile, have adopted AI tools to test new games, which is more efficient and more accurate than manpower. (Sound_bite) Zhang Zaiwei, Technical chief, game company in Shanghai: "It can generate 30,000 to 50,000 samples under a test cycle of 3 to 5 days, which makes it easier for us to detect the bugs, so the problems can be solved more efficiently." (Voice_over) Data from the China Internet Network Information Center shows that by June, there were 230 million people in the country using generative AI, with the market size of core products reaching more than 82 billion U.S. dollars.
